Portugal generates €297.1m iGaming revenue for Q3

The figure represents an 3.5% increase from the prior year period, while operators submitted €89.8m in online gambling special tax, equating to growth of 8.8%.

Portugal’s Gaming Regulation and Inspection Service (SRIJ) has released the country’s online gambling activity for the third quarter of 2025, as total revenue generated by games of chance and fixed-odds sports betting grew 3.5% to €297.1m. 

Games of chance offerings in Portugal generated €197.4m of the country’s total iGaming revenue for Q3 2025, representing a 12.7% increase from the prior year period and a 66.4% revenue share. 

Having produced the remaining 33.6% of Portuguese online gambling revenue, fixed-odds sports betting increased revenue by 9.4% for a total of €99.7m. Despite increasing revenue year-on-year, fixed-odds sports betting witnessed a decrease in profit of 8.7% from the second quarter of 2025. 
 

Football was the leading sport to be wagered on in Portugal by a wide margin, representing 71.8% of the total registered bets accepted by operators. Tennis produced 22.1% of wagers in Portugal, mainly from the US Open and Wimbledon tournaments which were responsible for 14.9% and 12.1%, respectively, of all tennis wagers placed across the country. 

Slot games accounted for the vast majority of bets placed on games of chance, having produced 79.2% of all wagers for Q3 2025. French roulette generated an additional 6.8%, while blackjack, crash and poker games at 5.1%, 2.9% and 1.2%, respectively. 

According to the SRIJ, there were just over 4.9m player registrations for fixed-odds sports betting accounts at the conclusion of Q3 2025, equating to an increase of 1.5%. There were over 208,000 new registrations added for the quarterly period, as well as the deduction of 137,300 canceled registrations. 

On 30 September, 2025, SRIJ reported there were 342,200 player accounts self-excluded from online gambling operations of any type, representing 4.9% growth from the prior year period. The regulator added 45,700 accounts to its self-exclusion program, with 29,900 having removed themselves from the list. 

Operators currently conducting iGaming business in Portugal submitted €89.8m in online gambling special tax, equating to an increase of 8.8%. Gross revenue from iGaming operations totaled €30.9m, having risen 11.6%.
