Galaxy Entertainment announces pay hike for staff effective April

Macau’s Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has announced that it will hike salaries for all eligible employees at the senior manager grade and below, effective from April 1.

About 98 percent of Galaxy’s staff is set to benefit from the hike. Qualified staff who joined the company before January this year will receive a salary hike according to the programme.

The staff members who have a monthly base salary and guaranteed tips (if applicable) of MOP16,000 or below will receive an increment of MOP600. Meanwhile, qualifying recipients with a monthly base salary above MOP16,000 will receive a 2.5 percent salary increase.

“Galaxy Entertainment would like to thank all its team members for their efforts and contributions in the past year and looks forward to working together with them to achieve another success,” the company said.

Macau’s all six gaming concessionaires have announced bonuses for their staff, with Sands also announcing a hike for its employees. Sands China announced discretionary bonus of one month’s salary for 99 percent of its full-time employees. The company also promised a salary increase to eligible employees in March.

Galaxy Entertainment was the first to announce a one-month discretionary bonus in late December. This is to be paid to staff on 22 January.

Galaxy to bid for IR

In corporate news, Macau’s Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) is seeking to participate in the bidding process for an integrated resort (IR) in the country as Thailand expands its gaming market and prepares to legalise casinos.

Goldman Sachs reports that a request for proposal (RFP) is expected to be launched by mid-2025. This information emerged during a meeting between Galaxy management and the investment bank at the APAC Consumer and Leisure Corporate Day on 8 January 2025.

The Macau-based casino operator has long focused on its domestic development, whilst remaining open to opportunities elsewhere. The group recognises Thailand as one of the most popular tourist destinations, according to Buddy Lam Chi Seng, the casino group’s director of corporate affairs.

Predictions for Macau’s GGR

Galaxy Entertainment Group has also announced its prediction that Macau’s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) will outpace China’s GDP growth in 2025, anticipating an optimistic outlook echoed by the government.

The forecast follows a recent meeting between Galaxy Entertainment’s management and investment bank Goldman Sachs. According to Macau’s fiscal year 2025 budget, GGR is expected to rise by 6 percent year-on-year, reaching MOP 240 billion.

Both Galaxy and Goldman Sachs attribute its confidence to Macau’s relatively untapped potential as a travel and gaming destination, suggesting ample room for future growth.
