Three Execs Exit Allwyn UK in Major Leadership Overhaul to Drive National Lottery Transformation

LONDON Allwyn UK has initiated a sweeping restructuring of its executive leadership team in an effort to accelerate growth and maximize financial contributions to Good Causes across the United Kingdom. The organizational transformation follows the planned departure of Allwyn UK Chief Executive Officer Andria Vidler, whose exit was formally announced earlier this year. As part of the corporate streamlining, three high-profile senior executives will leave the business, with their respective positions set to be permanently discontinued as the operator shifts toward a more integrated operating model.

The executive departures include Chief Technology Officer Mark Smith, Managing Director of Digital Richard Dawkins, and Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Sarah Venning. Under the incoming management structure, which officially takes effect on December 1, 2026, Allwyn is restructuring how core departments operate. The technology leadership function previously overseen by Smith will be integrated directly into the broader digital, retail, and security department. Meanwhile, the strategic responsibilities formerly led by Venning will be consolidated directly within the remit of the Chief Executive Officer.

Interim CEO Phil Walker, who stepped into the leadership role following Vidler’s departure, will absorb these expanded strategic functions while continuing to serve on an interim basis. Walker’s appointment has drawn scrutiny in political circles, with Members of Parliament including Labour’s Dawn Butler and Conservative Sir Iain Duncan Smith raising concerns with the Gambling Commission regarding his previous involvement in the adult gaming centre (AGC) sector. Despite the critique, Walker is tasked with guiding the operator through a pivotal phase following the completed, albeit delayed, delivery of the National Lottery's tech overhaul originally initiated under Vidler’s tenure.

To fill remaining operational gaps, Allwyn is creating newly defined leadership positions aimed at driving digital engagement and community awareness. A new Chief Digital Officer will oversee customer experience, technology, and digital performance under a single banner, while former PayPal CMO Stephen Taylor is expected to assume the Chief Marketing Officer role on an interim basis. Additionally, former Chief Impact Officer Alastair Ruxton will transition into the newly created role of Director of Social Impact, reporting directly to the CEO to more effectively communicate the tangible benefits of lottery funding to the public.

The primary objective behind the executive realignments is to revive sales growth and rebuild public connection to the National Lottery's core founding purpose. By elevating the marketing department across the wider business and establishing clear executive accountability, Allwyn aims to ensure that players directly understand how their participation drives community investments. As Walker emphasized during the announcement, building a clearer understanding of the extraordinary difference players make across the UK remains central to driving long-term player participation and achieving the operator’s ambitious Good Causes targets.
