Maryland sports betting handle falls 0.2% to $636.3m

Sports wagering operations across the state also contributed just over $15.7m to various Maryalnd funds, representing growth of 141.7% from the prior year period.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming has reported the state’s total sports wagering activity for December 2025, as online and retail operations combined to generate a handle of $636.3m, representing a decrease of 0.2%. 

Operators conducting retail business across Maryland were able to generate just over $10.2m of handle for December 2025, while online entities produced $626.1m, including more than 85,000 in free promotional wagers. 

While handle generated by online operations increased 1.1% from the prior year period, wagers placed in retail facilities fell by nearly 42.8%. Operators managed to produce just over $80.6m of revenue for December 2025, equating to a hold of 12.7% during the monthly period. 

Sports wagering operations across the state also contributed just over $15.7m to various Maryalnd funds, representing growth of 141.7% year-over-year. Retail operators contribute 15% of all revenue to Maryland’s Future Fund, while online entities submit 15% to the state’s Blueprint Fund and 5% to the Maryland General Fund. 
 

Over the first six months of fiscal year 2026, sports wagering contributions in Maryland have reached just over $78.6m, an increase of over $30m from the contributions recorded during the prior year period. 

On January 6, Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported the state's total casino activity for December 2025, as revenue generated by commercial gaming establishments was $159.8m, representing a decrease of 2.6%.

Despite reporting the highest revenue of any Maryland property throughout December 2025 with nearly $68.4m, MGM National Harbor casino revenue fell 7.2%. Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland generated $58.8m of revenue for the monthly period, second only to MGM National Harbor, but witnessed a decrease of 0.6% year-over-year.
