Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax Policy Danylo Getmantsev spoke about the results of taxation of the gambling business for the first half of 2024. According to him, licensed gambling operators paid UAH 8.4 billion in taxes to the country's budget, which is almost 3 times more than in the same period in 2023.
"At the same time, the profit tax increased by 7.3 times compared to the previous year, and the personal income tax by 26.1%. By the way, such a discrepancy shows that the tax on winnings needs to be worked on," noted Getmantsev. He also added that in June, the gambling business paid 1.9 times more taxes compared to June last year.
In early spring, People's Deputy from the Golos faction Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that in the first months of 2024, the Ukrainian gambling business paid 11 times more taxes than for the whole of 2021. It later became known that the top 10 most successful companies in the Ukrainian gambling business increased their wealth by 28 times in 2023. The list included 9 online casinos and one lottery operator.
As we wrote earlier, at the end of May, the Ukrainian government amended Resolution No. 566 on online gambling from May 17, 2024, thereby completely banning their advertising on the Internet . These measures followed the decision of the Verkhovna Rada to disband KRAIL, the gambling regulator of Ukraine, and the signing of a presidential decree aimed at combating the negative consequences of online gambling.
In turn, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, together with law enforcement agencies, has stepped up the fight against illegal online gambling . As of April 2024, more than 450 criminal cases are under investigation. As a result of the investigations, 21 people were charged, and indictments were sent to court against 72 people. Particular attention is paid to cases against 68 members of criminal groups, which is an important step in the fight against illegal gambling.
