Xpoint secures UAE gaming licence

Geolocation technology provider Xpoint Technology is now the latest supplier approved to operate under the United Arab Emirates’ new commercial gaming framework.

Xpoint has been given a gaming-related vendor license by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), which enables the company to provide its geolocation services to GCGRA-licensed commercial gaming operators.

This is the fourth company to be licensed as a gaming-related vendor by the GCGRA after Smartplay International, Aristocrat Technologies and PayBy.

Xpoint’s geolocation platform, known as Xpoint Verify, is designed for iGaming and sports betting, focusing on regulatory geo-compliance. Xpoint Verify aims to ensure accurate geolocation tracking, preventing fraud, and providing marketing insights to operators. The technology is designed to counter online gaming fraud by extracting user locations and providing compliant experiences.

Xpoint recently celebrated a major win against rival GeoComply in the US Court of Appeals, which ruled in favour of Xpoint by upholding the dismissal of GeoComply’s patent infringement suit after finding its geolocation patent invalid.

Land-based gaming

Wynn Resorts is the only company in the country with a licence for land-based gaming facilities. Its upcoming property in Ras Al-Khaimah, the Wynn Al Marjan Island Resort, will feature a 225,000-square-foot gaming floor. It will be the first gaming resort in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and it is expected to open in early 2027.

The hotel secured a renewable 15-year land-based gaming facility license from the UAE’s GCGRA. The company expects to be one of three competitive integrated resorts operating in the UAE, with MGM Resorts also planning a gaming facility in Abu Dhabi. For now, the UAE will have a maximum of one land-based license per emirate.

Lottery

The UAE Lottery operator ‘The Game’ is the only lottery licensee within the seven emirates. The country has embarked on a new era of regulated gaming by launching its first-ever lottery. This landmark event marks a significant shift in the country’s approach to entertainment and leisure, offering residents a chance to win life-changing sums of money.

The UAE Lottery represents the first licensed gambling operation in the Emirates, paving the way for potential future growth in the sector. The Game LLC, a subsidiary of Momentum, holds the license and is responsible for running the lottery.
