Pontus Lindwall reflects on record Betsson performance

With Betsson AB’s 2024 full-year financial performance showing no signs of decline, CEO Pontus Lindwall confirmed for SBC that he has no doubt ‘the company is in ‘good shape’.

In an exclusive interview, the CEO commented that part of Betsson’s success comes from its cost control strategy which has seen increasing investment in technology over the past year.

Lindwall said: “As we put 2024 behind us, we can conclude that it was the best year ever for Betsson, where we continued to strengthen our position as one of the global leaders in gaming and betting.

“The year was characterised by high growth, strengthened profitability and strategic investments in line with our long-term goals and our vision to offer the best gaming experience in the industry.”

In terms of Betsson’s sportsbook and casino offerings, Lindwall outlined that both verticals have grown simultaneously. In 2025, he expressed that the goal will be sportsbook expansion, with hopes for casino to follow closely.

Q4 2024 saw casino revenue climb by 17% YoY to an all-time high of €213.9m (Q4 2023: €182.8m), while full-year results brought 18% YoY growth to €795.4m (2023: €672m).

On the other hand, sportsbook revenue for the full year was €303.4m – up 14% YoY (2023: €267m), while the numbers for the final quarter alone showed all-time high sportsbook revenue of €91.3m (2023: €67m).

“Our investments to strengthen the product offering and increase brand awareness contributed to the excellent results for the year,” Lindwall continued.

“For the full year 2024, we passed €1bn in revenue for the first time, which was 17% higher than the previous year.

“At the same time, the EBIT margin strengthened to over 23% thanks to our scalable business model and continued cost control.

“The cash flows of the business and the robust balance sheet enable us to keep paying attractive dividends to our shareholders while we continue investing in future growth.”

Looking at the world map, Lindwall suggested a shift from Betsson’s focus on the Nordics, and a strengthened focus on Latin America as the market continues to take shape in 2025.
