A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Gambling Authority of Botswana (Africa) met with the Gambling Consulting Authority’s team, led by Mr. George Mamulaishvili, for insightful consultations and learning experiences in the development of the gambling industry, including in Georgia.
Today, Botswana is on a path to improve its regulatory framework and operational efficiency of the gambling industry and the delegation has expressed interest in receiving guidance and expertise from the Gambling Consulting Authority.
The first meeting covered the following topics:
- Legislation and regulation on i-Gaming: Exploring the intricacies of regulatory frameworks to ensure responsible and effective governance in the digital gaming sphere.
- Training and capacity building: Identifying ways to up-skill and equip stakeholders with the necessary expertise to navigate the complexities of i-Gaming.
- Compliance Enforcement: Understanding the operational mechanisms of service providers and systems used by operators, and developing strategies for robust regulatory enforcement.
- Geo-blocking mechanisms: Clarifying the functionality of geo-blocking concerning diverse licences and jurisdictional boundaries, crucial for maintaining regulatory integrity.
- Payment blocking systems: Strategizing on payment blocking systems to strengthen vigilance against illicit transactions and uphold financial integrity.
- Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols: Delving into the intricacies of KYC systems tailored for the i-Gaming sector, including adaptations for the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
During the consultations, the GCA team extended its expertise to assist the Botswana delegation in
navigating various critical topics, including legislation, regulatory policy, and operational strategies and
expressed its firm commitment to further facilitate the advancement of best practices, the improvement of the regulatory framework and the establishment of responsible gambling principles in Botswana. Looking ahead, this partnership is poised to strengthen, with the Gambling Consulting Authority ready to provide further support to Botswana’s partners. Specifically, as preliminary agreed we will continue to provide guidance, including tailored training programmes for staff and stakeholders, while also offering ongoing support in the shaping regulatory policies that precisely address Botswana's unique requirements.
The agreements reached at the first meeting underscore the exceptional ability of the GCA to provide comprehensive solutions, to apply innovative approaches in the field of gambling regulation and consultancy, and to offer unparalleled expertise and support to jurisdictions worldwide.
